Watercolor: Introduction to Aquabord

This course is designed to introduce students to painting watercolor on a clay surface. All are welcome including those beginning their watercolor experience.

The reference photo, “Blueberries in Glass” will be supplied along with a line drawing.  Instruction, from the transferred drawing to finished details, will be provided as written lessons with progress photos. Accompanying pre-recorded video demonstrations for various steps along the way, will also be available and a weekly one hour Zoom Conference for questions and live demonstrations will be offered but not mandatory.

Should time permit, a second small painting will be available with some accompanying instruction.

WATERCOLOR SUPPLIES

  • Paint – professional grade in tubes: Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith brands
    Red: Permanent Alizarin Crimson (DS), Winsor Red (WN)
    Blue: Cobalt blue (DS), French Ultramarine (DS), Winsor Blue
    Yellow: New Gamboge (DS)
    Neutrals: Burnt Sienna (WN), Payne’s Gray (DS)
  • Brushes – Silver Black Velvet:
    Round: #4, #8
    Other: Michaels acrylic flats in various sizes (not too hard but not too soft – used for lifting)
  • Palette – Large with many wells & cover or cups
  • Painting Surface – Ampersand Aquabord:
    Flat:  1/8”—6” x 6” (usually come in a package of 4)
  • Bath Towel
  • Spray Bottle
  • Water Container(s)
