Virtual Pastel Painting Students Thrive
Even in a global pandemic with a need for self-quarantine and social distancing, Arts Center East artists and students are staying connected and being creative.
Jane Penfield’s Pastel Painting sessions quickly moved to a digital format when it was announced that Connecticut was affectively going into lockdown in March. Her class has been one of the most popular offerings at Arts Center East. While some were hesitant about this change to a virtual format, both Jane and her students were eager to keep meeting and keep painting. Nancy Osgood said of Jane’s class, “I’ve taken art classes in the studio [at Arts Center East] for years and wondered how painting could possibly be taught online, but Jane’s approach absolutely works and it’s so much fun!”
In August, Jane is beginning her fourth session of Virtual Pastel Painting. With a virtual format, Jane has been able to reach students who otherwise may have been able to come to the Arts Center weekly. Her students have been able to remain engaged and nurture their creative outlet.
Below is artwork from a few of Jane’s students that they created as part of the virtual classes.
