ARTIST MEMBER Shirley Mae Neu

Each Day is a Gift
Art has been my passion since early childhood. A place to escape and create. When I begin to paint, I consider what emotion I want to express through the use of color and form. It’s a challenging, problem solving experience as I rotate the canvas repeatedly.
Many spontaneous endeavors have given birth to canvases filled with movement, colorful, mysterious, or somber moods, and a contemporary style that I feel gives my work a unique flair. Risk taking and experimentation with a variety of mediums and techniques continues to lead me down new paths.
My work has been shown in solo, group, and juried exhibitions in numerous Connecticut libraries and art venues including The Mark Twain and Slater Museums and New Britain Museum of American Art.
I have held Art Educator positions within West Hartford’s Public School system and at Renbrook School’s Summer Adventure Camp. I am currently on the Board of the Canton Artists’ Guild. The exhibition opportunities at the Gallery on the Green and the members are an endless source of creative inspiration.
