During Aline Hoffman’s long history of supporting other people in her various careers, she has continued to explore a variety of media in her life as an artist. Her careers, spanning over four decades, include junior high school Fine Arts teacher in New York City, art gallery manager in Glen Ellen, CA, Director of Art Therapy at a private psychiatric institute in Portland, CT, middle school Counselor in Coventry, CT, and Board Certified Hypnotherapist in private practice, also in Coventry, CT. Hoffman has degrees in Art Eduction (BS) from NYU, Counseling Psychology (MS) from SCSU, Gestalt Theory & Practice (6th Year) from SCSU, and Behavioral Science (Ph.D.) with an accredited alternative program (Alpha U.)
For much of her life as an artist, Aline has worked in realistic styles employing a variety of media including pencil, pen & ink, oils, and most recently, pyrography (wood burning). She has studied and explored other approaches as well, each strengthening the foundations of her talent. These include Abstract Expressionism, Chinese Brush painting, stone and metal sculpture, engraving on metal and glass, her Birch series developed as an offshoot of Chinese Brush, and most recently, Pyrography.
Those who have followed the artist’s progression describe her pyrography as the culmination of all her art experience to this point. In this work, one can see a sense of style from the Chinese Brush years, balance from Abstract Expressionism, and a three-dimensionality from sculptural experiences.
